Kaiteriteri Retreat to Takaka and Return – 110km return – 2.25 hours driving
If you are staying with us for multiple days, then this is a great trip to fill in a day. The drive over the Takaka Hill is slow, windy and a little challenging however well worthwhile. It takes approx. 60 minutes from Kaiteriteri to Takaka subject to road conditions. The countryside is unspoilt and beautiful. Spend some time exploring the township of Takaka, visit Pupu Springs, maybe catch a Salmon at the Anatoki Salmon Farm. There are some great Galleries and Café’s in Takaka for lunch or a break.
You may wish to take a side trip from Takaka to Pohara and on to Port Tarakohe (additional 22km – round trip). The Wainui Falls Walking Track is a great walking option and is a little further on from Port Tarakohe. The walk is a 1 hour round trip. Download the Walks in Golden Bay brochure below.

Kaiteriteri Retreat to Farewell Spit and Return 204km return – 4 hours driving
Farewell Spit is well renown and is the most northern point in the South Island. Farewell Spit Eco Tours operate tours onto the Spit on a daily basis, should you be interested in the wildlife and history of the area. Tour departure times are completely subject to tidal conditions so booking in advance is essential. ** Note cafes are very limited north of Collingwood and come with mixed reviews.
